Hi, I’m Dr. Darcie L. TeVault
Through my time as a Language Development Specialist and Assistant Director for Teacher and Learning, I became passionate about teacher self-efficacy, collective teacher efficacy, and pedagogy within the independent school context. Now, as a consultant, an adjunct faculty member at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Education, and the Director of Professional Learning at the Virginia Association of Independent Schools, I share my expertise in curriculum, pedagogy, and the systems that connect them with current and future classroom leaders.
My work spans research, practice, and policy, informed by successful grant writing, sound governance principles, and sustained contributions to the field. I continue to support action research projects for Johns Hopkins University, Georgetown University, and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, bringing appreciative inquiry and research-driven tools to educational contexts to authentically build and strengthen the bridge between research and practice.
I’ve been able to share my work with a wider audience through a book chapter (Pape, Bryant, JohnBull & Karp, 2024), presentations at the American Educational Research Association, the U.S. Festival of Education, Learning Forward Virginia, and panel moderation for Toddle's AI for Independent Schools Summit.
I offer leadership through service on the Board for Learning Forward Virginia and the Advisory Board for the University of Richmond's Nonprofit Studies program in the School of Professional and Continuing Studies. I’m proud to hold a Bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education from Salve Regina University and both a Master's and Doctor of Education from Johns Hopkins University.
Areas of Practice
Consulting Services
Preserving or transforming a school's academic culture requires more than isolated fixes; it requires understanding how curriculum mapping, pedagogical master planning, and program evaluation work together. I help independent schools navigate the nuanced connections between these elements, building coherent, intentional systems that serve both faculty and students.
Teaching & Learning Residency
This immersive, hands-on experience places me directly in your school, working alongside teachers and leaders in real time. Through observation, coaching, and co-facilitation, we strengthen instructional practice together, not as an outside expert, but as a true thought partner invested in your growth. Whether your school needs interim support during a leadership transition, a longer-term partnership around strategic plan implementation, or a thoughtful way to assess and justify the need for a full-time academic role, the residency is designed to flex around your moment and your mission.
Speaking Engagements
From keynotes to professional development sessions, I bring energy, honesty, and applied research to every stage. Drawing on years of experience in education and leadership, I focus on frameworks that spark meaningful conversation, deep work, and inspiration for educators.
